£50m contracts up for grabs at procurement event
Thu 2nd Apr 2009, 9:35am
CONTRACTS worth £50m will be up for grabs at a special event designed to help companies across the North East tap into opportunities with the public sector.
The external works framework is being flagged up at an event designed to demystify the process of tendering for work with the public sector.
The event will include sessions tailored to contractors of all sizes interested in the neprocurement framework opportunities, as well as more general sessions to talk companies through the process of applying for public sector work.
The day has been organised by neprocurement, a consortium of eleven Registered Social Landlords, to provide information on the highlighted frameworks,to talk companies through the process of public sector applications and to provide face to face responses to any questions that they may have.
It will be held on Wednesday April 8 at Ramside Hall and is being run in conjunction with the County Durham Development Company (CDDC) which is keen to encourage the public sector to work with local companies and boost the local economy. For further information, or to reserve a place at one of the events, please contact Kate Mullin, at kate.mullin@valueworks.co.uk.
Stewart Watkins, managing director of CDDC said: “In the current economic climate there has been renewed interest from companies wanting to work with the public sector but it is important we do everything possible to make this process easier.
“Many companies are put off pitching for public sector contracts because of the seeming complexity of the application process. An event like this is aimed at explaining and simplifying this process to make it as easy as possible for companies to apply.”
The event has the backing of the region’s leading business organisation, the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), which launched its Buy North East campaign with the aim of encouraging the public sector to work more closely with local companies.
Ross Smith, head of policy and research at NECC said: “Any event that helps North East contractors to win business from public sector bodies is a positive move. Public sector procurement has a major impact on the local economy and companies need to make the most of opportunities like the event today to equip themselves with the necessary information to pitch for work such as this.”
